Chris Johnson

Christopher (Chris) Johnson is the Director of Network Development and Operations for CLEARCorps/USA. He has held this position for nearly 10 years. As a part of the CLEARCorps/USA staff, he’s the go to person for local affiliates whenever there are operational or grant related questions or problems. He is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and management of CLEARCorps’ network of affiliate programs. He oversees all reporting functions related to grants, ensures that affiliates are meeting all grant requirements, and he works closely with the affiliate executive and program directors in tracking and reporting and publishing the good work they are doing.

For the eleven years preceding his work at CLEARCorps, Chris worked for the Multnomah County (Oregon) Health Department. During this period, the County was approached by the City of Portland’s Bureau of Housing to work together to apply for a HUD Lead Hazard Control Grant. Chris was part of the team that a wrote a successful grant, and he went on to become the first director of Portland’s Lead Hazard Control Program. Chris was also the first Site Director of the Portland CLEARCorps Affiliate.

Chris also managed Oregon’s statewide Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. During that period, he was instrumental in creating a coalition of concerned individuals, who working together, were instrumental in getting the Oregon Legislature and the governor to pass and sign into law Title X enabling legislation in 1995. Oregon was the first state in the Northwest and, until recently, the only Northwest state to pass such legislation.

In addition to his over 15 years in the childhood lead poisoning prevention field, Chris has worked as a parish minister, a hospital chaplain, a director of a university campus-ministry program, and as a public health educator. Chris has a B.A. in secondary education from Purdue University, a Master of Theology degree from Notre Dame, and an M.A. in Counseling from the University of Portland. A Hoosier by birth and an Oregonian by choice, Chris happily resides in Portland, Oregon. He is a self-taught computer geek, an avid reader, and watches, on average, four movies a week.
