Josiah Hill III Clinic’s mission is to protect children from environmental hazards and promote community action for healthy homes. JHC is a grassroots organization which provides direct services to families in the Portland Metro area. This unique organization is the only non-profit in the area which provides mobile blood lead testing, green cleaning workshops, and indoor air assessments/healthy home check-ups. Further, the non-profit provides environmental health outreach and education at numerous community events. In addition to their services which help protect children from environmental hazards, the organization develops community leaders and advocates for policies which create healthier housing for children. With only two full time staff members, Josiah Hill III Clinic relies on the support of their strong diverse volunteer base to reach thousands of community members each year.
In 2007 JHC provided approx 710 blood lead tests and 71 healthy home visits (home health visits were with Somali refugee and Latino families)
In 2008 JHC has over 1,000 volunteer hours thus far
Funding sources in 2008 include: Northwest Health Foundation, Providence Health and Services, Portland Water Bureau, Black United Fund of Oregon, Bureau of Housing and Community Development,(new) EPA CARES grant (brand new 2008-2010), annual fundraising event with sponsorships and individual donors.
